Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) in Vancouver, BC
What is Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)?
Developed by Richard C. Schwartz
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) is a trauma-informed, integrative mental health treatment that draws on concepts from systems theory, family therapy, and attachment theory. IFS is based on the belief that everyone has an “inner family” of parts – each with their own distinct traits, roles, and coping mechanisms. When we experience traumaor challenges in life, our parts can become overactivated, leading to anxiety, depression, and other mental health difficulties.
How it works:
IFS therapy focuses on helping people to connect with their true selves, or “core” in order to heal from trauma and live more authentic lives. In order to do this, IFS therapy uses a variety of techniques to help people explore their internal worlds and understand the relationships between their different parts. IFS therapy can be an effective treatment for a wide range of mental health issues.
Benefits of IFS Therapy:
Through IFS therapy, individuals can learn to identify and understand their inner parts, as well as develop skills for managing difficult emotions and resolving conflict. Ultimately, IFS can help people to heal from trauma, cultivate self-compassion, and live more fulfilling lives.
